Babeque Secondary School, Santo Domingo, DR
Participants: Rose Lord, from the organization Make Gardens Not War; Botanist Cristiana Cruz Minier, Coordinator of the GFDD Community and School Gardens program; students and teachers.
We continue in the second phase of the GFDD/FUNGLODE Community and School Gardens program with a workshop on seed conservation at the Babeque Secondary School from 8-10 am. The objective of the workshop is to teach students and the community how to conserve seeds and create their own fertilizer through vermicomposting, ensuring that their gardens will grow into self-sustaining systems.
The program, which to date has provided materials and instruction to create and maintain vegetable gardens in 12 schools and 2 community centers in Santo Domingo, Baní and Azua, continues to expand by offering technical workshops in schools with previously established gardens as a means of enriching the students’ base of knowledge.
