Loyola School Workshop

March 19, 2013

Loyola School, Santo Domingo, DR
Participants: Rose Lord, from the organization Make Gardens Not War; Botanist Cristiana Cruz Minier, Coordinator of the GFDD Community and School Gardens program; students and teachers.

We continue into the second phase of the GFDD/FUNGLODE Community and School Gardens program with a workshop on seed conservation at Loyola School in Santo Domingo from 8-10 am.

The objective of the workshop is to teach students and the community how to conserve seeds and create their own fertilizer through vermicomposting, ensuring that their gardens will grow into self-sustaining systems.

In addition to instruction, it was also a practical workshop. As Rose explained concepts to the students, she also gave them a short demonstration on the conservation of seeds.

Since its inception the program has created a total of 26 vegetable gardens across the country in the provinces of Santo Domingo, Santiago, San Cristobal, Baní, Monte Plata, and Azua.
